Manners for Moving Up Part 2

Basic Good Grooming for Women:
1. Do something with your armpit hair! Shaving, they say, leaves armpits dark while plucking may cause pore enlargement & increase the risk of infection. Hair remover doesn't get it all out and waxing it as painful as ripping your skin off. So which method do you prefer?

2. If you're one to shave your legs, please spare your boyfriend or husband the - yuck! - agony of brushing unprotected parts of his body against something that feels like a cheese grater. Not shaving regularly is about as attractive as braiding your hair.

3. Never remove your shoes in public, much less rub your toes & ankles together.

4. Keep you hair neat & tidy, and please , keep it out of other people's faces but don't brush it in public.

5. Fragrance in whatever form of cologne, eau de toilette , lotion, perfume should be subtle & mysterious. Not overwhelming and sneeze-inducing.

Manners for Moving Up Part 1

1. Ladies & Gentlemen
Introductions are a killer, if you depend on complicated, old fashioned rules of who introduce to whom.

THE WOMAN’S NAME IS MENTIONED FIRST.

For example: ‘Anna, I’d like you to meet David.’ Or, ‘Anna, this is David.’ Once you know this rule by heart, it will be easy for you to remember that the name of the older and more important person is mentioned first. “Sister Agnes, this is my cousin Bobby.’ And, “Your Excellency, may I present my wife, Jane.’

A lady does not have to stand up to be introduced to a man unless he is older or enjoys a higher rank. She does not have to stand up for a younger person or someone her age.

2. Q & A
Q: Should a woman invite a man to have lunch or dinner with her?
A: Of course. This is the 20th century, remember?

Q: How should she go about it?
A: Naturally, simply & sincerely. A woman should state her intention clearly, taking care not to come on too strong & eager.

Q: Who should pay?
A: The one who did the inviting. Nonetheless, most men won’t let the woman pay. But if he lets you pay for his lunch, don’t blame him.

3. Dress up, dress down, dress right
Part of the fun is dressing correctly, as the occasion demands. You don’t have to be a fashion plate to look your best, but you have to look good first. In general, it is better to under dress than to overdress.
What is being overdressed? It’s wearing party clothes to a picnic. Looking like Cinderella in a ballgame. Being overloaded with jewelry, real or fancy in a church.
Why is it better to be under dressed? Because you do not call attention by sticking out like a sore thumb. By being under dressed, you can blend into the woodwork and hope that there are others who are similarly under dressed.
TO DRESS DOWN DOES NOT MEAN NOT BEING SHABBY. The truly stylish who dress down occasionally have learned a few basic rules by heart:
· Clothes are immaculately clean & cleanly and simply cut. – simple is not plain or boring. Underplay colors by using non colors – black, white, beige, navy. Use little or no jewelry.
· By day, wear cotton or linen. By night wear silk or satin.
· By day wear simple jewelry, pearls a classic watch.
· By night have fun & go funky, let your hair down. Go with the glow of colored stones if that is your caprice.
· Daytime – a light perfume or cologne.
· By Day – wear an easy hairstyle, easy to comb.
· Pearls may be worn day & night.
· Diamonds are more suitable for evening.
· Under normal, informal circumstances, it’s all right to mix yellow gold & white gold.
· Sexy clothes are for sexy people to be worn to sexy places. You can wear black shoes with almost anything but you can’t wear white shoes with black stockings

Circle of Support by Dr. Joan Borysenko

" Isolation is difficult for any human, but for a woman it is what psychologists call "ego dystonic", or out of tune with our accustomed way of being. For that reason, it has the potential to be a serious stress, despite the busyness of our lives, we need to be mindful of the continued need to support and be supported by one another."

Beauty Survival Kit

Whether you have the job interview of a lifetime, a hot date or merely a night out on the town, countless beauty snafus may be lurking just around the corner! Don’t fall victim to some of womankind’s oldest enemies instead, be ready and armed for whatever beauty blunders may await.

Different situations may call for suitable actions, so consider your destination and any possible snafus that may come up while you are there.
At a very bare minimum, your beauty survival kit should include the following
  • Clear lip gloss or chapstick - No matter how kissably soft you know your lips are, it can never hurt to add some moisture and shine with a deliciously flavored lip gloss. Applying gloss in front of your date may even entice him to test out your soft and supple lips!
  • Dental floss and toothpick - A single strand of floss coiled up and tucked away can really save the day in case your romantic candlelit dinner for two becomes a dinner for three, if you count the broccoli between your teeth as a single entity! A toothpick may also be a good item to include for dental hygiene purposes away from home.
  • Mini mouthwash - Fresh breath in an instant! Just take a small swig of mouthwash after dinner or before you head out the door. Chase the taste of your lunch, dinner or even strong coffee away with a quick rinse with some minty mouthwash.
  • Mini trial size perfume spritzer - Freshen up anytime you like by carrying a miniature purse-sized fragrance spritzer with you. Scent is often considered the sense most tied to memory, so let your fragrance linger and leave a lasting impression wherever you go!
  • Hairspray or gel - Long events often leave much room for hair calamities to engage by the end of the night. If you simply can?t stand to have a single hair out of place, it is in your best interests to pack a miniature bottle of hairspray or gel. Just a spritz here or a dab there will fix any potential problems before anyone else even notices!
  • Visine and pressed powder - Did you know that Visine doesn't just get the red out of your eyes. A tiny drop applied to a bright red blemish can often tone down the abrasive color, which can then be further diminished with a gentle blotting of pressed powder complementary to your skin tone. A concealer stick may also come in handy!
  • Tissues - You never know when your allergies might act up or a sudden event may cause the waterworks to spring a leak. By prepared to sop up any unexpected tears with a few tissues packed handily inside your pocketbook.
  • Miniature bottle of lotion - Whether dry hands or peeling skin from harsh sunburn ail you, ward off any unsightly flakes with a few drops of your favorite lotion in a travel-sized bottle. In the dire absence of hairspray or gel, you can also use a tiny bit of lotion to smooth down fly-aways and cowlicks.

For more exclusive events and outings, you may wish to include:

  • Extra pantyhose or at least clear nail polish - The last thing you want to deal with is a runner in your pantyhose when you're off to nail that job interview so you can get your foot in the door of your dream occupational field. Worse yet, imagine being in the bridal party with short gowns and a foot-long runner from just above your ankle to your knee! Always be prepared.
  • Toothbrush and toothpaste - Keeping your choppers a pretty pearly white can really be a daunting task if you are on the run all the time. Why not buy an extra toothbrush and tube of toothpaste to keep with you in your car, or in your purse when you know you'll need it. Fresh breath and clean teeth can be yours all the time, even if it does mean brushing away in the office restroom!

Depending on the size of your purse, you may wish to compile your own beauty survival kit and store it all inside a zippered pouch that you can bring with you from place to place. Keeping a number of these items, if not all of them, in your vehicle is a great idea, especially if you travel a good deal. Add your own beauty items to the pouch to create the ultimate survival kit especially for you!

Empowering Women part 2

I own everything about me - my body, including all its thoughts and ideas; my eyes, including images of all they behold; love, disappointment, excitement; my mouth, and all the words that come out of it, polite, sweet or rough, correct or incorrect; my voice, loud or soft; and all my actions, whether they be to others or myself.
I own my fantasies, my dreams, my hopes, my fears.
I won all my triumphs and successes, all my failures and mistakes. Because I own all of me, I can become intimately acquainted with me. By so doing I can love me and be friendly with me in all my parts. I can then make it possible for all of me to work in my best interests.
I know there are some aspects about myself that puzzle me, and other aspects that I do not know. But as long as I am friendly and loving to myself, I can courageously and hopefully look for the solutions to the puzzles and for ways to find out more about me.
However I look and sound, whatever I say and do, and whatever I think and feel at a given moment in time is me. This is authentic and represents where I am at that moment in time.
When I review later how I looked and sounded, what I said and did, and how I thought and felt, some part may turn out to be unfitting. I can discard that which is something new for that which I discarded.
I can see, hear, feel, think, say, and do. I have the tools to survive, to be close to others, to be productive, and to make sense and order out of the world of people and things outside of me.
I own me, and therefore I can engineer me. I am me and I am okay.
~Author Unknown~

Empowering Women part 1

I was browsing the net and I've found this article about empowering women...

Try these next few things when you feel at doubt with yourself:~

  • Show your true colors....show the world that you are who you are! People who care about you will love you for who you ARE, and not for who you are supposed to be!~
  • Be true to yourself....stand up for what you believe in and for your opinions!~
  • Do your best every day....don't be a quitter!~
  • Believe in yourself....if you can't trust yourself, then who can?~
  • Look in the mirror every day and tell yourself that you love yourself!~
  • Always find good things to say about yourself....it is easier than you think!~
  • Put your arms around yourself and give yourself a big hug!~
  • Show pride in yourself....it doesn't matter who you are....you are special!~
  • Spoil yourself! Do something nice for yourself....something you really enjoy! Take some time away from the world if you need to!~
  • Always remember that you know yourself best....you know your needs, your strengths and weaknesses. Use this knowledge to do good for yourself and for others!~
  • Don't let others fill your head full with negativity. Stay positive, but at the same time try to help others to feel positive too!~
  • Believe in your dreams! Don't let anyone take them away from you or belittle you for having dreams!~
  • Don't worry about what other people might think or say about you. People will always find something to talk about, and worrying about it will only make you unhappy. If you show them that you don't care what they say or think, they will soon leave you alone.~
  • Don't let people spoil your happiness! Unfortunately there are lots of people who can't stand it if someone else is happy or has a success in life, and they will be jealous and let you feel it. Don't worry about it....it's their problem....not yours!~
  • Be unique! If we all were the same, how boring would this world be! And remember, there is only one *YOU* in the whole world!~
  • And tell yourself at least once a day "I AM WHO I AM!"

Tips for Smart Women

  • Mark off "me time" - This is the 1st step to letting go. Start with 10 minutes a day and list small changes that could improve our well being. "Make then happen."
  • Break old patterns - Find new ways of doing things, new ways of behaving - don't stick to old patterns just because they are a habit.
  • When you get home, find your center before you go to your kids or do something else (if you are single) - Just feel do not think, do not get stuck on emotions.
  • Recharge - There's no substitute for 8 hours sleep, try to get the best quality of sleep. During the day, lie down or take a nap for 15 minutes...that's what we call a power nap.
  • Do something you are passionate about - Make room in your life for something you're passionate about, motivates you & reflects your personal wants. Self-empowerment is vitalizing.

Be a Makeup Artist

Being a makeup artist earns you money while making women feel very good about themselves. We put on makeup everyday. So at least we know the basics, but I think with proper training & practice, our love for makeup can be channeled into a part time job to a profession and can help us earn as much as P 5,000 to P 10,000 per month.

STUDYING MAKEUP
There are beauty schools where we can learn to apply makeup and polish our skills. Here is the list of schools:
  • Academy of Beauty & Arts (ABA) - P 18,000 basic makeup course for 2 months
  • La Salle College International - P 12,500 for 7 Saturdays
  • School of Fashion & the Arts (SOFA) - P15,000
  • Center for Aesthetic Studies - P 18,200, 3 month course
  • Samson College of Science & Technology - Advanced Cosmetology - P 7,782 2 months course
  • Ricky Reyes Learning Institute - P 6,000

An alternative to beauty school would be to apprentice for a makeup artist. We can also get techniques from magazines , internet and books.
If we want to pursue to be a makeup artist, we will invest a little to buy the basic tools that we need (brushes, eyelash curler brush clutch, eye cream, moisturizer, make up primer, concealer, foundation, translucent loose powder, blush, eye shadow, eye liner, lip colors , lip gloss, mascara). But to save money, we can start by mixing high end products with more affordable ones.

Goodluck!

10 Smart Moves for Women Who Want to Suceed in Love & Life (Part 4 of 4)

8. BEND SO YOU DON'T BREAK
  • Smart women know how to endure, survive even thrive despite adversity. - Sometimes life's events strike with such force that those who don't bend snap. Bending in response to fears, disappointments, setbacks, conflicts & tragedies keeps life from breaking us. To be sure, there are other ways to cope. Some women grow more rigid in their purposes, plans & positions.
  • Learn to deal with disappointments.
  • Bend so conflict doesn't break us.
  • Bend so anger & hurt don't break us. - Forgiveness allows flexibility of the heart when the head says it can take no more.
  • Bend so we can manage the downside of risks.

9. SEEK SPIRITUAL GUIDANCE

  • The role of a wife, mother, friend, employee & entrepreneur hold their shape best when women wear a spiritual foundation.
  • Simplify your life so you have time for a spiritual focus.
  • It is generally not the boring routine that causes burnout, but the absence of passion & purpose.

  • There is a time for everything,
  • Don't be afraid of growing older, because as you embrace each new season, it brings its own joy & new opportunities for fulfillment.
  • Look at life as stages. In this stage of life we focus on this thing and in that stage we're going to focus on that thing.
  • Time spent longing for the past & the "good old days" or longing for the future until "real" life begins is wasted time. Smart women swim in the seasons of life, enjoying each stage of the journey for its own thrills & commitments.

10 Smart Moves for Women (Part 3 of 4)

5. FOLLOW THROUGH FEEDBACK

  • Feedback is invaluable to anyone interested in growth & improvement. - Know the difference between feedback & advice.

The advice we receive from others tends to be largely our own; we hint as what we want others to tell us. No one one wants advice - only collaboration. Feedback, on the other hand, often is the label we attach those negative comments we receive from both loved ones & outsiders. To be successful in love & in life, we need both kinds of comments to help us chart a successful & fulfilling life.

  • Successful individuals have advisers we call them mentors, coaches or friends.

  • We have too much to loose if we don't get feedback and much to gain if we do.

  • Consider negative feedback a gift, not a gripe. - one of the surest marks of character is the willingness to accept negative feedback without feeling animosity toward the person who gave it.

  • Smart women take the initiative in getting feedback at work & at home.

6. ENTERTAIN ONLY ETHICAL CHOICES

  • Smart women never jeopardize their integrity.

  • Character counts & perception can penalize. - Even at the bank, loan officers approve or refuse loans, they consider the 5 Cs of credit decisions...credit history, capacity, collateral, cash flow & character. Character - even an outsider's assessment of character - makes a difference whether you get a loan, get a job, or get into a business. Perception can be the most damaging part of the whole situation. It's not what happened or happens, but what people think happened or happens make a difference.

  • In the marketplace, in the community, in social circles, character counts.

  • Winning or losing, bounty or bankruptcy is not the point. Doing the right thing is.

There are opportunities big & small to take ethical fork in the road:

  • Passing off someone else's ideas or accomplishments as your own
  • Working at "half-mast" rather than putting in a productive day's work
  • Padding a travel expense report
  • Lying to clients and colleagues to cover for our mistakes rather than admitting them
  • Producing products or providing services of shoddy quality
  • Entering someone's computer or desk without authorization
  • "Borrowing" from the petty cash fund and failing to return the money
  • Taking an employer's trade secrets or inside information and passing them to a new employer or to a competitor
  • Advertsing deceptively or selling products known to be defective
  • Giving undeserved, poor job references on employees to prospective employers
  • Repeating unverified, erroneous information or gossip, or failing to correct hurtful information that you hear passed on about someone or some situation
  • Padding a resume
  • Failing to honor verbal commitments

  • Our bond is our word. Our future business depends on it.
  • Character dictates words, actions & decisions.
  • Smart women according to Rick Warren - " Smart Women consider their self worth more important than their net worth."

7. RELISH RELATIONSHIPS

  • Put family first - Smart women hold on to relationships, despite these fears, despite your successes and despite any difficulties.
  • When it comes to marriage, smart women set up a partnership , not a holding company. - That is, smart women and your spouses experience the satisfaction of going through life as partners, each giving to meet the needs of the other and in return having their own needs met. Marriages that operate like a holding company - with one of the partners holding all the sticks and doling out decisions by decree - wither.
  • Smart women know that their men & children in their lives provide great strength & support.
  • Forgiveness is a decision, always. - Forgive & forge on...Smart women should spend their time analyzing the difficult situation, gaining insight on motivations & then decide to forgive.
  • Smart women cherish their family relationships.
  • Many people now pay a therapist for what a friend used to do - listen. Friends beat therapists in 2 ways: they don't make you sit on the couch and they are far cheaper. :)
  • Smart women find friends who offer an emotional support system. - friends are God's hands on earth.
  • To develop this support system around you: Be interested, Be interesting, Cry with them, Be happy when they win, Do favors for them, Let them do favors for you.
  • Those that hang out, hang in & hang on - these are your most valuable friendships.
  • Communicate with colleagues - Sharing with colleagues and other women will give smart women a chance to bounce ideas off each other, seek advice on problems & issues, and gain support as women.
  • Show people you need them - Reveal your heart to them. Listen - even when you are not in the mood. Don't pass judgment on what they say or do. Keep confidences. Find something you can do for them. All these steps in building friendships, we know, we've experienced.
  • Smart women ask others for what they need. - letting them know that we need them
  • Don't depend on others to make you happy.
  • Those smart women who live alone do relish their relationships with extended family & friends, but they have also learned to enjoy solitude. - They fill their time with reading, gardening, crafts, exercising, listening to music, playing the piano, guitar, prayer, meditation, nature walks, sewing, driving, watching movies, sports, blogging, cooking, surfing the net, walking the dog etc. Smart women relish solitude in small doses with their relationships.
  • Smart women cherish & cultivate their relationships. Those relationships with family, friends & colleagues provide emotional support, intellectual stimulation & physical help. When career ends, family & friends remain. Smart women work hard to keep relationships in good repair.

A short poem about friendship....

Sharing the happy-nings in my life with you has doubled my pleasure. The same is true for the disappointments - you've made doldrums more unbearable. Thank you for stretching me. For helping me to see new ways of relating, new causes to consider, new interests to explore. Thank you for saying things to me that have not always been easy to say. You risk my hurt, disappointments & anger. But you say them anyway, I appreciate that.

10 Smart Moves for Women Who Want to Succeed in Love and in Life by: Dianna Booher

Hi! As promised, this is the continuation of the Smart Moves. I hope these smart moves would help women out there.
3. SET SAILS ON YOUR OWN SEAS
  • Find a way to make your passion your work
  • Be specific about your goals
  • Add deadlines (Goals push us, goals pull us, goals define us)
  • A goal should serve as a guide, not a gun to your head
  • Develop an action plan (Smart women survey their resources)
  • Chart your progress along the way
  • It takes courage to change course. But then smart women have courage.
  • Smart women correct their courses. It Happens. - Smart women define success in their own terms: Success may mean holding an executive position in a Top 500 company. Success may mean learning new skills, raising well adjusted kids, running a mansion, providing excellent customer service, winning the starring role in a play, it may also mean growing your own company.

SMART women set sail on their own sea of success. They find and stir the passion inside them until it becomes the flame that sweeps them into genuine success - personal fulfilment.

4. PUT UP OR SHUT UP

  • Smart women decide things - and then move on.
  • Why do we dally around with decision? We fear making the wrong decision. We fear taking responsibility for ourselves.
  • Learn to make that hard decisions.
  • Take calculated risks - because some decisions require risk. Sometimes not to take a risk can be the biggest risk of all.
  • Smart women who plan to make a difference in the world have to believe that a difference can be made.
  • Indecision about handling conflict causes major stress. Right or wrong, there are decisions and commitments that cannot be delegated or relegated to someone else.
  • Recognize procrastination and perform above par
  • Accept responsibility for your decisions.
  • Smart women deliver results not excuses.
  • Smart women exercise self-discipline themselves and they expect others to do the same. Here's what smart women do differently to accomplish more:
  1. Feed & exercise your mind
  2. Cultivate curiosity
  3. Focus & concentrate
  4. Avoid trying to complete a project when they have to wait for information
  5. Bunch similar tasks
  6. Create systems & processes for the routine so they don't waste energy on rethinking
  7. Eliminate the busywork
  8. Try not to tell people things they already know
  9. Do things right the first time so they don't have to do them over
  10. Set priorities
  11. Plan
  12. Prepare for the worst
  13. Organize yourselves, your workspace, information & tools
  14. Schedule optimally
  15. Work according to your natural rhythm
  16. Forget the clock
  17. Learn to delegate
  18. Ask questions upfront
  19. Listen to the answers
  20. Ask for reasons
  21. Welcome new ideas
  22. See obstacles as opportunities
  23. Study past mistakes
  24. Tame your tongue
  25. Say yes with pleasure
  26. Say no when yo have to - with a smile :)
  27. Pay attention to detail
  28. See the big picture
  29. Hire capable people
  30. Hire slowly but fire quickly
  31. Pay for quality

Do what you can...every 10 minutes. If you can't swallow the whole work / task all at once, break it into do-able chunks. I am doing it with my general cleaning....

Practice persistence. Don't do more than you can do. But do all that you can do. Committing to more than you can do is the surest way to lose your credibility. Doing what you say you will do is the fastest track to confidence - yours and theother person.

Smart women take the calculated risks, handle confrontation , perform above par, put in the effort, right the wrongs and deliver the results. In short, smart women decide, smart women determine. smart women do. They don't drift.

How to be an Independent Woman?

Are you ready to be an independent woman? Whether or not you are single or married you can still apply this helpful advice to become your own individual.
Things You'll Need:
1.
Sense of self worth
2. Strong will
3. An open mind
4. Faith in yourself
5. Pen & Paper
6. Supportive Friend

Step 1
Evaluate your current situation. Are you depending on others for the majority of your needs, or are to many others depending on you?
Step 2
If you answered yes to either question you will need to take out your pen and paper and go to step 3.
Step 3
Make a list of anything that you depend on someone else for. Are you constantly calling someone over to fix things in your house or apartment? Do you rely on someone else to help you with your finances? You must be as detailed as possible and list even the smallest of things that you rely on someone else for.
Step 4
Next, write down the things that others depend on you for. If you have children be sure and include their needs on the list. This list should be longer than the first one in most cases. Single or married women are prone to take on more for others than they do for themselves.
Step 5
This step may be the most difficult. You must compare the two lists. If the first list is the longest take the time to review it carefully. What on that list could you actually learn how to do for yourself? What would be the positive effects if you handled some of the tasks? What would be the negative outcome? Now review the second list. What are you doing for others that they are capable of doing for themselves? If you have older children decide which tasks could be delegated to them. Are you responsible for keeping up with the toys, homework, feeding the pets? Those small chores would give your child the opportunity to contribute to the household and lighten your load a little. If you are single, do friends and co-workers expect you to do more? Do they assume because you do not have a husband or children you have more free time? This is not a fair assumption. Your time is just as valuable as those with families.
Step 6
This is the final step. Review your previous lists carefully and determine what new priorities you have created. You should have removed items from your first list and delegated items from your second list. If you have honestly looked at how your time is being spent both lists should now be shorter. What you have actually done is lightened your responsibilities of others and made time to learn something new for yourself.

A Woman's Guide to Buying a Car

We have been celebrating women’s rise to power and recognition for years now. We’ve seen them take the plunge and chase the career of their dreams and fight for a cause no matter what it takes. These days, there are so many opportunities for women to prove their worth, and with these come the power to earn as well as spend.
So now, we ask ourselves, having achieved that sense of financial freedom, could this be a better time to buy a new car? Unlike one of those spur-of-the-moment indulgences at the mall, buying a new car calls for a great deal of consideration, not to mention an awful lot of shopping money.

For women who don’t want to learn the hard way, help is finally here as luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz offers an easy, comprehensive guide to purchasing a car for women. The company has filled a pocketsize guidebook -- a very handy companion for women on the go - with tried and tested tips and insights from the company’s experts, from choosing the car model to covering the finances of owning your first automobile. Making the right decision on your dream ride has never been this easy.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT
What drives you? Your lifestyle will certainly influence the kind of car you choose. Do you mostly zip around the city or go on off-road adventures on weekends? Do you need a regular-sized car or something larger for those family weekend picnics? What about power: do you feel the ’need for speed’ or simply want something to get you about? Determining your exact needs will bring you a step closer to finding that perfect ride.
Choosing between a new and pre-loved car is relatively simple. Deciding what kind of car best suits your requirements is another story. If image is everything, a sporty two-seater may be ideal: although you’ll have to pick which lucky friend accompanies you to the ball. While a coupé may complete your look, perhaps your ultimate accessory is a roadster - top-down, naturally. Many people enjoy the high, unobstructed view from an SUV. Others love to throw everything, including the kids and the dog, into a luxury estate (more commonly known as a station wagon). Compact cars are nippy around town, but well-appointed saloons provide wonderful long-distance comfort and room for far more designer luggage. Be realistic about your needs and enjoy the journey.

DO THE MATH
Unless you’re a millionaire, you’ll need to work out a budget and stick to it. Rather like having a baby, owning a car involves many upfront and ongoing costs: registration, insurance, road tax, fuel and maintenance bills - to name but a few. Also bear in mind that the trade-off for looking utterly sexy in that sleek roadster can mean higher insurance premiums and taxes.
Factoring in these costs will help you determine how much you can fork out for the monthly installments - and ultimately what kind of car you can afford.
Ultimately, the car you choose will depend on the way you feel after the test drive. Do you sense a connection with it, emotionally or instinctively? Does it live up to your expectations in terms of comfort, safety, equipment and after sales service? Does it offer easy maintenance - unlike that dreadful ’hand wash only in cold water’ sequined blouse? Only you know what suits you best. It may help to chart out the facts so your comparison is more objective.

BUYING YOUR CAR
Now that you’ve made up your mind to carry on with your major acquisition, the next step is to learn how to get a great deal when shopping around. Buying the right car depends on many things. Besides "drivability", suitability and the overall quality of the car, you should factor-in the complete package details. These include selling price, financing, after sales support, warranty coverage, running costs (including fuel, insurance, servicing and taxes) and the resale value of the car.

FINANCING
Unless you’ve got a huge trust fund, you’ll probably need an appropriate finance scheme to purchase your car.
Most dealers offer several options. If you own a car, you could trade it in and pay the difference for your new car. Always ensure the trade-in value is not too far from the market rate of your car before choosing this option. Alternatively, it may be wise to sell the car privately first.
The most common financing scheme involves a downpayment for the car, followed by monthly repayments for a period of seven to ten years. This option is usually offered by finance companies that are connected to the dealership, enabling quick and easy transactions. Cross-reference with other private companies or banks to get the best for your money. Some companies offer zero-downpayments, but this usually means higher monthly repayments, otherwise known as, "Play now, pay later."
There is also balloon financing which allows lower monthly payments that increase towards the end of the loan, giving you more disposable income for other investments in the short term.
